In the section “News” young photographers continue to introduce their work and their creative background. This time we give word to Zane Dorošenko, Rūta Ķiploka and Vadim Siščikov.
In the article series “20th century” we offer a research on photography in Latvia during 1940’s and 1950’s. The author of the essay photographer and photo researcher Arnis Balčus discovers circumstances that influenced a renaissance of the Latvian photo art in after decades. In this section “Foto Kvartāls” introduces it’s readers also to one of the most romantic and remarkable couples in the history of world photography - American avant-garde artists Lillian Bassman and Paul Himmel.
In the series of essays on contemporary photographic arts created in 21st century photographer Raimo Lielbriedis writes about young and promising Latvian artist Andrejs Kovaļovs, who creates his intimate works in classical black-and-white technique. Art critic Jānis Borgs turns to another Latvian photo artist Linda Klētniece. Her nature close-ups and minimalistic aesthetics in photography allows to draw parallels with abstract painting. Find also an intriguing conversation with master of St. Petersburg photo school Alexander Kitayev.
“Foto Kvartāls” invites to join for an insight into the exhibitions of Latvian photo documentalist Uldis Briedis and widely known Latvian cameraman Gints Bērziņš.
